Seeing as how my mom works for the Virginian Pilot as one of their delivery persons, I have always been very concerned about their shady and nearly inhumane working conditions. I spoke with my mom yesterday and she said the paper has not yet said that they will not be working. I called customer service around 7:15 this morning and the lady let me know that I should put in a stop request to not get the paper Sunday morning because they were not yet sure if they would cancel their services. I kindly let her know that I will not put in a stop request but that if I do receive my paper Sunday morning that I will cancel my service.
The only reason I get the paper is for the coupons but I don't believe I want them that badly. This is what they told my mom last night at work: "You will get your mattress ads and coupons for Sunday tonight by themselves to deliver on Saturday morning. On Sunday morning we will open at 9am (instead of the night before) and you will deliver Saturday and Sunday parts of the paper"
Thank you for letting me vent. If you feel similarly about the Virginian Pilot, I encourage you to call their customer service line: 757-446-9000 you don't have to cancel service but I would appreciate any help to encourage this business to let their workers have the weekend off. Granted, they are opening their distribution center late Sunday morning, however I do not feel they are caring enough about the flooding that will occur even after the storm on Sunday. Words cannot describe the disdain I feel for their treatment of their lower income employees.
